Roll on the competition.

I’m often heard muttering “Roll on the day ALDI opens in Urmston.” Why do I say this?

It’s simple really.

After what seemed like a lifetime, phase 1 of the redevelopment of the town centre opened. After a further lifetime phase 2 is now under way. In phase 1 there is only one supermarket and that is Sainsbury’s. It has been open a couple of years now and due to the lack of local competition they have the monopoly. I’m not sure this is a healthy position to be in for a thriving town centre of the likes of Urmston.

Price wise I’m seeing the effect of this. I’ll give you an example.

I was recently passing a Tesco outlet so popped in to pick up a few bits. While I was there I spotted Tesco own brand diced chicken. I thought the price was reasonable so I bought 2 packs.

Yesterday I was in our branch of Sainsbury’s here in Urmston and spotted the same product. This was also an own brand.

I will now compare them.

Tesco diced chicken 410 grams £2.18
Sainsbury’s diced chicken 400 gram £4.00

Bit of a difference isn’t there?

Like I’ve been saying. Roll on ALDI Urmston branch opening.

Oh how I realised how I wanted time.
Put into perspective, tried so hard to find.
Just for one moment, thought I’d found my way.
Destiny unfolded, I watched it slip away.

Pinch me!

Pinch me. I must be dreaming.

Sunday, 13th May, 2012. Man City were crowned champions.

Even though the hangover has gone, and it was a big one, I still can’t believe we did that on Sunday. 44 years I’ve waited for that as I was 8 years old the last time we won the league.

Those mad and frantic final 5 minutes were worth all the heartbreaking and painful moments over the years. I’ve seen good times and a hell of a lot of bad times with this club since my dad took me to my first game when I was 6 years old.

I wouldn’t change a thing,

Never be without again.

We’ve all been there at one time or another haven’t we? Well fear no more for there is hope. Never be without again. :)
